Meet our Wild Foods Educator:
Welcome to Vaughan Wildcrafts! My name is Tasha Vaughan and I want to take you on a journey through the Ozark wilderness and teach you the many useful and delicious plants that can be found here! My love of the pristine Ozark mountains began as a little girl. My mother would take my little brother and I out to hunt for mushrooms and we would come back with our sacks full of goodies. There is still nothing better than pan-fried morels in April! Growing up on a small, rural farm, I was raised to take notice of the seasons and the rich bounty that could be found by simply taking a walk around.
In 2020, I decided to take foraging classes to expand my knowledge. I began by taking classes with local expert forager, and published author Rachael West. I continued taking classes from her, and from another expert forager and published author, Bo Brown. l also began pouring over every book on foraging I could find! As my knowledge base grew under my mentors, I decided I wanted to pursue foraging on a professional level.Â
In 2023, I completed Level 1 and Level 2 of the Foraging Certification class offered through Eating the Ozarks and taught by Rachael West and Bo Brown. Upon completion, I launched Vaughan Wildcrafts with the goal of teaching others how to recognize and prepare the different wild edibles that can be found in our Ozark forests! I will be leading plant walks and teaching classes beginning Spring of 2024! Come learn with me!
"My ultimate goal is to empower my students to look in their own yard to find plants that will enrich their lives...and then to show them how to make those plants taste super yummy!" -Tasha
